For L.F.D.A. 02.Exploring the status of contemporary art today, and its relationship to the world of cinema, artists Cannelle Tanc and Frédéric Vincent approach La Force de l’Art 02 as a unique forum within which to examine its central issues. Their project, Archipel (“Archipelago”), is a collective experiment taking place throughout the duration of the exhibition, from its installation to its dismantling. Cannelle Tanc, Frédéric Vincent and a number of other artists invited by them, will produce films and videos using the exhibition as their location, and playing on some of the familiar norms and codes of television serials. The result will be a collection of shorts by various film-makers exploring common themes, as sometimes seen in the world of cinema: Canelle Tanc, Frédéric Vincent and invited artists Camille Henrot, Richard Negre, Youssef Tabti and Georges Tony-Stoll. Video works shot during the exhibition will respect the same unities of time, place and action. The videos will be edited on the spot, live, in a glass-walled editing suite enabling viewers to watch the process as it happens. Photographs by Cannelle Tanc and Frédéric Vincent will be displayed on the walls. Finally, visitors to the event will be able to view the finished films, discovering their roles – perhaps – as actors or extras in this cinematographic, artistic enterprise. C. Tanc and F. VincentFormer students at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Cannelle Tanc and Frédéric Vincent are both interested in history, and the passing and recording of time. While their respective works are based on different thematics, the city for one, music for the other, the Memory-Project they have created in collaboration with each other consists of becoming aware, through animated images, of the topological staging of the entire world's cities.
